Photoshop – Create a shot effect

In this video tutorial I’ll teach you how you can create an effect called bokeh in Photoshop. The photo will be taken in a city to make bokeh effects after which we’ll apply a rainy textures for adding rain-like effects. Then the adjustment layer will be used to complete the final result. Enjoy!

Selecting the right stock

Step 1.

You can open the image of the city using Photoshop by clicking the File menu, then Open and then open it.

This is the city image that I’ve used in this video tutorial, however it is possible to choose the image you like and it could be a city or village. It could also be a street or type of window that has lots of lighting. It is important to consider: select pictures that feature lots of illumination and include evening scenes too. Below is the photo of the city or the village that I’m using

It is evident that cities has perfect lighting and is the best choice for effects of bokeh.

Develop the Bokeh Effect

Step 2.

Convert the layer of city into Smart objects. Select the Filter menu, Blur and then Gaussian Blur and then set the Radius to 31.9 Pixels. We already know that when using bokeh, the vibrant lights will be visible and the background becomes barely noticeable. It is the Gaussian Blur filter can help you achieve this and you are free to play around with blurring, but do not do it too much.

Step 3.

We will now increase the impact with adjustment layers with the addition of more light sources as well as using rain textures. Click the Layer menu, then New Adjustment Layer Hue/Saturation and select blues. Then, reduce the blue color by turning down the saturation to an amount of -67.

The goal here is to remove blue hue of the sky.

Step 4.

Because of Hue/Saturation the city has a lower urban saturation also, and I do not wish this to happen. In order to fix this it was necessary to mask the effect on the city by masking Hue/Saturation in the city to make it only visible to the sky. Select the layer mask that is Hue/Saturation and then using a soft, simple black brushes, mask the result.

Step 5

In a brand new layer I painted the city’s lights onto the city with dark blue, yellow red, and green. Make sure to use a gentle round brushes for painting lights. Name this layer “lights”.

Adjust the blending mode for the lighting layer to Blend mode. Dodge 100 percent. These are the results :

Step 6

I applied an Curves adjustment to give the basic color to my photo. These are the settings for Blue channel: and blue channel:

By using the RGB channel 1 cut down the brightness a slightly.

Incorporate the Rain Textures

Step 7

Add the rain 1 texture in the main document by choosing the File menu and then Place embedded. Make sure to utilize the the Transform tool (CTRL + T) to make the rain texture blend nicely into the main document.

Blending mode for rain texture 1 to the screen and reduce the opacity by 41 percent.

Step 8.

Create an level adjustment layer, and then set the layer as the Clipping Mask (press the icon in red). Then drag the black slider towards the right side to enhance the brightness in the Rain 1 textures, or to limit its visibility.

Step 9

Then we’ll make the rainy effect by with the rain2 texture.Place the texture of rain into the main document, and make a rainy effect.

Blending mode set in the blending mode to Screen 100 100%.

Final Adjustments

Step 11.

Create an color balance adjustment layer, and change The midtone values. It is my intention to add red and yellow tones to my the image, but you are at ease to alter your own colors. Simply alter the value of the midtones, or perhaps every tone to achieve the desired results.

Step 12

In the end, I made use of to apply the color lookup adjustment using the Teel Orange and the Contrast filter. You are welcome to play around with various color lookup file types.

Here is the effects of the final bokeh:

This is the way in which the layer panel is laid out:
